Picnic Polo (06 Oct 2009)

Picnic Polo, two days of sport, country atmosphere and socialising.
One of the worlds’ most exciting sports, polo, combined with wines from the Hunter and good food will set the scene for an enjoyable two days with a difference. The annual Wirragulla Polo Club tournament, Pryde’s EasiFeed Hunter Polo Challenge is on October Saturday 24 and Sunday 25, 2009.
Set in the picturesque countryside at Dungog the polo ground is at Tabbil Creek, Cemetery Rd on the edge of town. Polo brings together sportsmen from all walks of life and spectators gather on the sidelines to enjoy the fast moving games played on some of the finest ponies in the land. Polo requires a keen sense of the horse, a high degree of athleticism, gamesmanship and team values – it is no place for the faint hearted or individualist. For the crowd it is a spectacular sport to experience as you are very close to the action hearing the thud of galloping hooves, clanging of sticks and players urging their team on.
Always a popular event on the NSW Polo Association calendar this years’ tournament will feature more than 200 of the fastest polo ponies and will be the perfect opportunity for you, family and friends to enjoy the special ambience of a major polo event.
Saturday sees all the knock out games played to determine the teams who will go into the finals on Sunday. With breaks between chukkas and time out each game lasts about 90 minutes. Play starts on each day at 10.00am and finishes around 4.00pm.
Facilities open over the weekend include a bar and canteen offering light meals, you are welcome to bring picnics and sit in the sunshine enjoying the company of friends and family all in a relaxed atmosphere.
Admission is $10.00 per person (children under 12 free). This event supports the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
