Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service does not telemarket. (09 Jun 2009)

It is disappointing that NRMA Careflight continues to confuse the purpose and reasoning behind its telemarketing in the New England – North West region.

We understand that NRMA Careflight is currently telemarketing local businesses asking for donations to support the local service.

NRMA Careflight is not the New England - North West region’s local rescue helicopter. Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is the NSW appointed contractor for those regions.

NRMA Careflight provides the Doctors for the CHC owned helicopters which have another NSW Department of Health contract. NRMA Careflight is also undertaking head injury research trials within a 20 minute radius of Westmead Hospital in Sydney. This research is fully funded by IAG Insurance.

Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service does not telemarket.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is the red and yellow BK117 aircraft operating from Tamworth airport. Each year it undertakes between 180 and 200 missions. It does this with the generosity of the community and through NSW Government contracts. NSW Health provides $1.5 million through its contract while an additional $1.5 million is raised through business sponsorships, payroll deduction, donations and the hard work of our red shirt Volunteer Support Groups in the New England - North West. This equals $3 million needed to cover the cost of the Rescue Helicopter each year.

I wish to assure the community that the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service does not telemarket and that every dollar that the community raises helps to ensure that no patient ever has to pay for what we believe is this essential service.
