Volunteer Support Groups

The Volunteer Support Groups are an integral part of the fundraising team for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. There are currently 30 Volunteer Support Groups throughout the Hunter and Mid North Coast, New England and North West regions of NSW. These groups comprise of more than 400 volunteers who give their time and skills to varied events through the year raising more than $500,000 annually.

Membership of support groups range from 3 to 25 people. Most groups have a core group of up to 5, who organise events and maintain operations, and a wider support network who assist at events.

Many groups appoint a publicity officer to promote their fundraising activities to the local media and community. They also recognise that as members of the volunteer support groups, they are an advocate of the Helicopter Service and must operate in the interest of the Helicopter Service’s best needs.

Events that the volunteers coordinate are as diverse as the areas they are come from and include Balls and Dinner Dances, Bowls & Golf Days, Horse Rides & Ute Musters, Dragonboat Regattas & Ducks for Dollars. From raffles on bus trips to rodeos and bull sales, the volunteers all share an enthusiasm and passion for their work and assist with creating awareness throughout the community.
