NSW Ambulance and Paramedics

The Ambulance Service of NSW is usually the tasking centre contacting the service for "Primary" missions. These are where the aircraft is called to attend to persons injured in accidents involving motor vehicles, motor cycles, horses, quad bikes, bush walking and motor vessels, to name a few.

These missions are usually crewed by specialist Ambulance Paramedic Officers who are assigned to a road ambulance and then drive to the base as required for helicopter missions. The Paramedics are specially trained to work on the aircraft and undergo recurrent training, practising with the aircraft’s equipment and procedures, including winching operations.

Once at the accident scene they will provide medical aid and administer intravenous drugs where necessary, in preparation for transporting the patient by helicopter to the most appropriate hospital.
