Mildred and Friends
Mildred Makes a Difference is our first children's book which aims to take children on a journey to discover why, how and when the rescue helicopters are required and how critically important they are to the people of our local community.
The book was inspired by the late Mildred Scanes of Nelson Bay who left a lasting legacy in 1994 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Since Ms Scanes' generous bequest, one of the Bell412SP helicopters operating out of the Newcastle Base has been affectionately known as Mildred.
The donation has seen great advancements in ongoing training and therefore helping to create a safe and invaluable air rescue service for those in the communities we serve.
Mildred and her friends have their own website where you will find useful information for school projects, interesting facts, fun activities and more! Fly on over and take a look!
