Coal & Allied is the largest producer of coal in the Hunter Valley region with around 30 million tonnes a year and the company employs approximately 1,500 people across three operations. It is a major shareholder of Port Waratah Coal Services.

The company was formed in 1960 by the amalgamation of J & A Brown, Abermain Seaham Collieries Ltd and Caledonian Collieries Ltd.
