New Tamworth Base

Work has finished on the development of the new base facilities for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service at Tamworth Airport.

Bulldozers and bobcats began work on 12 October 2009 on the $2 million complex which includes crew sleeping quarters, crew and medical staff offices and an operation area.

The move to build the complex has been on the cards since the Service began operations in Tamworth in 2000 and is part of the requirements of the new contract with NSW Ambulance.

Service General Manager, Richard Jones, said that the facilities are a a tribute to the New England - North West community.

‘Our Volunteer Support Groups, the business sector and our sponsors worked generously to raise funds that were used specifically for the construction of this base. Therir generosity will ensure that this region has an appropriate Rescue Helicopter for years to come,’ he said.
