The Northern Region Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is a not-for-profit organisation providing world class aeromedical, search and rescue services, free of charge to those in need 24/7. The Service has more than 40 years of proud history, and now operates from three bases in NSW (Tamworth, Belmont, Lismore) in addition to a Head Office and aircraft maintenance facility based in Broadmeadow NSW.

The Service is seeking a highly-organised and diligent SHEQ Manager for an immediate start. Based out of Broadmeadow Base, your primary purpose is the development, implementation, review and promotion of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) strategies, systems and activities across the organisation with a focus on aviation safety and compliance across flying operations and maintenance.

You will demonstrate strong stakeholder’s management and strategic planning skills, with proven experience leading a professional SHEQ team.

Responsibilities include:   

  • Developing, implementing, monitoring and review of the Service’s SHEQ Strategy, systems and budgets to ensure that the organisation meets its strategic priorities.
  • Monitoring service compliance with relevant legislation and organisation policies and procedures in Safety, Health, Environment and Quality, including CASA regulations.
  • Maintain a “Just Culture” in response to incidents/accidents and investigation outcomes.
  • Manage internal and external audits and inspections of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality systems, and maintain an effective and suitably trained internal audit team
  • Analyse safety performance including, trend monitoring of incidents/accidents, monitoring progress of safety reports and confirming hazards are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring reporting requirements are adhered to in accordance with Board/Senior Management requirements, regulations and contract requirements.
  • Provide SHEQ services, advice and assistance to the Board, Management and Staff.


To be considered for this role, it is essential you have the following:

  • Leadership experience and ability
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field e.g. Safety, Risk Management, Leadership
  • Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor Training
  • Human Factors and Investigation Qualifications
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Return To Work Co-ordinator Training
  • Experience in developing systems


Please note the successful candidate must be a person with relevant qualifications, skills and experience to be acceptable to CASA for holding a Nominated Personnel position within the Company in regards to Safety and Quality Manager requirements. As such the candidate will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of managing Safety, Environment and Quality in the Aviation/Aerospace industry. Operational experience in this area will be highly regarded.
