Air Crewman Brian Forster
Newcastle local Brian was a tradesman undertaking an apprenticeship in a shed across the road from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter base. Looking over at the base across the street every day, it didn't take Brian long to switch careers and join the Service in 2005.
In 2007, Brian moved to the Service's Tamworth base for four years, before eventually returning home to the Newcastle base in 2011.
Brian is passionate about serving his community, and works a second job on his days off as a lifeguard patrolling the local beach, which he has done since 1998. His work as a lifeguard and air crewman has given him a great rapport with the locals, which he believes is the best part of his job.
Brian and his wife, Belinda, both grew up in Newcastle and have just welcomed their first child to the world.
